MEDIA RELEASE AND INVITATION: 

National Student Leadership Event Being Held Locally

The ‘GRIP Student Leadership Conference’ is an annual one-day conference that brings together several hundred student leaders from dozens of local schools. The local event is one of 90 conferences being held around New Zealand and Australia in which a total of 30,000 students will participate.

Local media are invited to visit the conference for interviews and photos with the facilitators and students.

This one-day conference runs from 9.15am-2.20pm and media are welcome at any time.

No appointment is required. Please make yourself known to a ‘GRIP Leadership’ staff member at the information table. This staff member will be able to assist in assembling facilitators and students for photos and interviews as desired.

THE PURPOSE OF THE CONFERENCE

The GRIP Student Leadership Conference is an opportunity for students from a wide variety of schools to gather together and gain new leadership skills and ideas. The discussions and activities enable students to learn from leaders at other schools and the interactive presentations allow everyone to learn practical strategies for contributing to a school community.

WHAT HAPPENS AT THE CONFERENCE

  • Main presentations from the GRIP Leadership team
  • Discussion and interaction between students of all schools
  • Students sharing ideas on stage
  • Video clips with helpful ideas
  • Leadership games and activities
  • Planning time- using the conference workbook

SCHOOLS PARTICIPATING

Students from goverment, Catholic, and independent schools are all participating in the conference. Contact registrations@gripleadership.co.nz to request a list of schools participating for a specific location. We will gladly email this list for media purposes.

HOW THE CONFERENCE CAME ABOUT

The first GRIP Student Leadership Conference was held 10 years ago, and it has grown to now become an annual event in over 60 towns and cities in Australia and New Zealand. Schools attending their local event are part of a much larger group of over 2000 schools who participate in the exact same program.

The name, GRIP Leadership, stands for the four core values of the team and the conference:Generosity, Responsibility, Integrity, People.
